Gathering data
Gathering data is the first crucial step in interacting with our bionic flower control application. You would use your body to control the flower, and so the app would need to record you in a certain pose. You would need to think of a unique one for each command that the AI-Blossom can execute. Following this part of the tutorial you would learn how to gather the data for the AI App to work with.
Step 1: Positioning
Stand in front of the camera of your mobile phone with the application running. It’s extremely important that the app has a clear view of you in a sufficient light. You also shouldn’t wear clothes that are too loose or have lots of extra elements, as it can affect the way the application tracks your movements and gestures.
Step 2: Selecting a command
Choose one of the available commands that you want the bionic flowers to execute. Commands include: move forward, move backward, move left, move right, and stay still.
Step 3: Recording data
Once you’ve selected a command, press the designated button to start recording data.
The application will initiate a 3-second timer delay to prepare for data collection. During the recording process, the application will capture 50 photos of you in your current pose using AI technology to track your gestures. Each photo serves as valuable data for training the AI.
After the data collection is complete, the application saves the collected data, including the position of your gestures, for future processing.
Training the AI
Training the AI is essential to enhance its ability to recognize gestures and correlate them with specific commands.
Follow these steps to train the AI effectively:
Step 1: Initiate Training
Utilize the collected data to train the AI. The AI will analyze the gathered data to better understand and recognize gestures associated with each command. To initialize the process you need to press the start button.
Step 2: Monitor Progress
During the training process, observe the training screen, where the AI’s progress is displayed. Aim to achieve a pattern where all the values are aligned diagonally within a square on the training screen.
Step 3: Iterative Training
Continue training the AI until it successfully aligns all the values in the desired pattern, indicating that it has effectively learned to recognize gestures and correlate them with commands.
Now you should be ready for the last part: Testing.
Testing
Testing the application’s functionality is the final step to ensure that the data collection and AI training were successful. Follow these steps to test the application:
Step 1: Positioning
Stand in front of the camera as you did during the data collection process. Make sure that you are clearly visible and under a good light.
Step 2: Execute and Observe
Execute the gestures associated with the commands you selected during the data collection phase. Observe the bionic flowers’ responses to your gestures. If the data collected was precise and consistent, and the AI training was sufficient, the flowers should react accordingly and execute the commands accurately.
Step 3: Iterative Improvement
If the results are not as expected, consider collecting more precise data and refining the AI training to improve performance.
It can require several iterations until you would be able to control them perfectly, so please be patient. However, once you do get the hang of it, it becomes effortless and fun!
